HERTA PUTS XM SATELLITE RADIO CAR THROUGH PACES
                            ON DAY ONE AT MICHIGAN

BROOKLYN, Mich. (July 30, 2004) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta
opened practice today for Sunday's running of the Michigan Indy 400 by charting 120
miles in the #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone.
Herta, who is a Michigan native, posted a best lap of 212.526 miles per hour
(33.8782 seconds), which slotted in 14th overall during the two practice sessions held
on Friday.
Herta, who enters this weekend's event tied for ninth in the Indy Racing
LeagueŽ (IRL) IndyCarŽ Series points after nine of 16 events, is looking to make a
move in the standings at Michigan as he sits just one point from seventh and 36 from
the top five. Four IndyCar Series drivers are log-jammed in positions seven through
10 and are all separated by just one point.
Herta's teammate, Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan, posted the fastest lap
of the day at 214.797 miles per hour (33.5200 seconds) and was followed by Kosuke
Matsuura, who turned a lap at 214.414 miles per hour. Tomas Scheckter was third
fast on the day at 214.277 miles per hour and was followed by Buddy Rice (214.276)
and Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan Wheldon (213.550).
Practice for Sunday's 400-mile event resumes tomorrow morning and will be
followed by qualifying at 11 a.m. (EDT).

Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We had a tough day in the XM Satellite Radio car. It was pretty frustrating.
We just haven't found what we need at this point to be as good as we want to be on
Sunday. We'll just have to go to work on it overnight and see what we've got
tomorrow."

George Klotz, Team Manager,
#7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The XM Satellite Radio car is okay. We ran in traffic a little bit and the grip
levels just aren't where we want them to be. We just haven't hit on the total package,
yet, but we won't stop working on it until we get it."
