Stremme and the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge Look for Breakthrough Run at Pikes Peak
Fountain, CO (July 28, 2004) – Team TRIMSPA driver David Stremme hopes to
turn around his luck this weekend heading into Saturday’s Gould’s Pumps 250 at
Pikes Peak International Raceway. Stremme has recently endured a string of
three finishes of 28th or worse, each stemming from being bumped by a
competitor while running in the top 10. Stremme has had some success at Pikes Peak,
finishing 11th there last year while driving for Phoenix Racing.
“We are going up there with one goal in mind,” said Stremme, driver of the
TRIMSPA X32 Dodge. “Stay out of trouble and post a top finish to get this
team turned around. Our luck lately has been especially frustrating because our
cars have been awesome, that just doesn’t ensure someone else isn’t going to
run into you.”
Just three races ago Stremme had the car to beat at The Milwaukee Mile,
leading 73 laps and narrowly missing his first Busch Series victory to settle for
a second-place finish. Despite Team TRIMSPA’s struggles since that race,
Stremme knows another breakthrough run and possibly his first Busch victory is
within his grasp.
“If the TRIMSPA Team can keep bringing fast cars to the racetrack like we
have the past month then I am sure we will put together some more top finishes
and a win before this year is finished,” explained Stremme. “Pikes Peak is a
unique track and I really got the feel for it last year in my first start
there. We were running as high as third at one point.”
TRIMSPA crew chief Randy Cox has elected to bring Chassis BR006 to Pikes
Peak this weekend. It is the same chassis that Jamie McMurray drove to victory
at North Carolina Speedway earlier this season in Cox’s first race as a Busch
Series crew chief.
“We set up the engine a little different for racing at that altitude,” said
Cox. “The thin air also changes aero reaction on the chassis. BR006 is a
good piece I think it will be a good match for Pikes Peak.”
Stremme and Team TRIMSPA look to rebound from last weekend’s disappointment
at New Hampshire when they compete at Pikes Peak International Raceway in the
Gould’s Pumps 250 on July 31st. The event will be televised live at 3:30
p.m. eastern time on TNT and will broadcast nationally at that same time on
radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite Radio
Channel 144.
