Wayne's Wacky Weekend Motor Sport Wrap Up

Hey there!

Do you know the answer to the question, "Who won the 2004 German Grand Prix and set the all time "Wins in a season" record?"

NASCAR looks like it's ready to purchase acreage on Staten Island to build a track in New York City (For those who don't know, Staten Island is one of NY's five boroughs). For their sake, I hope that it's not close to Todt Hill (an infamous Cosa Nostre stronghold) . . . .

Headed out on the road next Thursday . . . so there won't be any newsletter next week (I know, boo hoo, sob sob . . .). Will be in PA and NY, so if you're in the are and want to talk about private label headwear, let me know. Will also be at Pocono Raceway next weekend for the Pennsylvania 500, so if you're going to be at the track, let me know and I'll make sure to catch up with you!

Lots of racing this week, so here's who won what . . .:

NASCAR @ New Hampshire International Speedway - The Nextel Cup series was in Loudon for the Siemens 300. Kurt Busch, in the Irwin Tools/Sharpie Ford took a hard fought victory. In Saturday's Busch Series Siemens 200, Busch-whacker Matt Kenseth, driving the Bayer/CVS Ford, took the victory over Tim Fedewa in the SuperCuts Chevy.

F1 @ Hockenheim - Michael Schumacher added another notch to his already stupendous career belt at the German Grand Prix. His 11th victory of 2004 was also his 81st of his career . . . He beat Jensen Button to the line by OVER 8 seconds. This victory sets the all time "Wins in a season" record . . . but he could reset it 6 more times this year . . . stay tuned.

CCWS @ Vancouver - Paul Tracy, driving the Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola, found his form in Canada, winning the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford Molson Indy Vancouver. Also in Vancouver, the Toyota Atlantic Championship presented by Yokohama series event was won by Ryan Dalziel, driving for ProWorks

IRL @ The Milwaukee Mile - Dario Franchitti, driving the Andretti Green/ArcaEx Dallara Honda, won his first IndyCar race, the Menards A.J. Foyt 225 @ the historic Milwaukee Mile. In the Menards Infiniti Pro Series, Paul Dana, driving the Ethanol Hemelgarn/Johnson Dallara/Infiniti, won the Milwaukee 100.

NHRA @ Seattle International Raceway - This week, the NHRA Powerade Drag Racing series was in Seattle for the 17th Annual Carquest Auto Parts Nationals. In Top Fuel, Tony Schumacher, driving the US Army Dragster, took his 5th final round win of the year. In Funny Car, John Force, in the Castrol GTX Mustang, returned to form, defeating Cruz Pedregon, who ends up a bridesmaid again. In Pro Stock, Greg Anderson, with Summit Racing Equipment stepping up as his major sponsor, did his usual, defeating Dave Connolly for his eleventh win of the year, one short of the record he set last year. Unless things really go awry for him, look for that 12 win season mark to get obliterated!

SCCA @ Portland International Raceway - In Speed Touring, Pierre Kleinubing, in the A-SPEC/RealTime Racing Acura TSX took the win. In Speed GT, Tommy Archer, in the c3controls/Whelen Engineering/3R-Racing Dodge Viper led flag to flag for the win.

American Le Mans Series @ Portland International Raceway - The Prototype and GT cars of the ALMS were at PIR this weekend. The P1 win went to J.J. Lehto & Marco Werner in the ADT Champion Racing Audi R8, P2 went to Clint Field & Robin Liddell in a Lola Judd, GTS went to the Corvette Racing C5-R of Ron Fellows & Johnny O'Connell and in GT, the Alex Job Racing Porsche GT3 RSR of Romain Dumas and Marc Leib won.
