Herta Wheels XM Satellite Radio Car To Ninth At Milwaukee

        WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 25, 2004) - The XM Satellite Radio team gambled on
strategy Sunday with the hopes it would result in a victory, but eventually settled for a ninth-
place finish in the Menards A.J. Foyt Indy 225 at The Milwaukee Mile.
        Driver Bryan Herta started from the 11th position on Sunday and had moved his way
into the top 10 by the time the first caution flag flew on lap 39. At that point, Herta and his XM
teammates knew if they played along with the rest of the leaders, track position would work
against them the rest of the 225-lap event, so they rolled the dice. Herta stayed out and took
over command of the race while the other cars pitted on lap 42.
        Herta led the next 38 laps while he waited for the break he needed in the form of a
well-timed caution. But, that break didn't materialize, which forced Herta to pit under green
and cost him all the track position he gained. After pitting on lap 80, Herta returned to the
race one lap down and in the 13th position. From there, Herta ground out the last 145 laps
and steadily worked his way towards his fifth top-10 finish of 2004.
        Herta's Andretti Green Racing teammate, ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti, scored his
first career Indy Racing League IndyCar® Series victory at Milwaukee, outrunning Buddy Rice
for the win. Sam Hornish Jr. was third, followed by Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan in
fourth and Vitor Meira in fifth.
        The IndyCar Series continues next Sunday at Michigan International Speedway with
Round 10 of the 2004 IndyCar Series schedule.

        "We decided to gamble early on because we thought there would be more yellows
here. Milwaukee usually produces more than today. It was nice to lead some laps during that
stretch. The car was obviously good in clean air. But, we didn't catch the yellow when we
needed to and lost a lap. But, I would much rather do what we did today than drive around all
day and finish fifth or sixth. I'm glad we went for the win."

        "We got off-sequence right off the get-go and got Bryan up front. He was running
quick laps and it looked like everything was going to go our way. But, then we got a yellow
three or four laps before we needed to see it, which worked against us. Sometimes those
gambles work and sometimes they don't. It just wasn't our day, but I'm happy for Dario and
AGR."
