(July 24, 2004) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta turned a lap 165.876 miles per hour in qualifying today to grab the 11th starting position for Sunday's running of the Menards A.J. Foyt Indy 225 at The Milwaukee Mile. Herta, who has netted three top-five finishes in the past five Indy Racing LeagueŽ (IRL) IndyCarŽ Series events, posted his quickest speed of the weekend thus far during his two laps of qualifying around the one-mile Wisconsin State Fairgrounds oval. Today marks only the third time in nine races this season that Herta has qualified outside the top 10. The last time it happened was during time trials for the Indianapolis 500 on May 16 when Herta qualified 23rd, but then drove to a season- best fourth-place finish. Vitor Meira won the pole for tomorrow's 225-lap race with a speed of 169.338 miles per hour (21.5781 seconds). Meira will start alongside Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan, who registered a speed of 168.597 miles per hour (21.6730 seconds). Buddy Rice qualified third (168.272 miles per hour) and was followed by Sam Hornish Jr. (168.258 miles per hour) and Helio Castroneves (168.093 miles per hour). Sunday's race, which is Round 9 of the 16-race schedule, is set to go green at 3:45 p.m. (EDT) and airs live on ABC with coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). We picked up some speed, maybe the ride height was a little too low and it kind of kept me from going any faster. But, that's alright. We learned something from that and can hopefully turn it into a good car for tomorrow."
