Wheldon Suffers Tough Outing In Klein Tools/Jim Beam Entry During Qualifying At Milwaukee

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 24, 2004) - Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan
Wheldon is hoping tomorrow's race at The Milwaukee Mile delivers a repeat of the
kind of magic that led him to his second career victory June 26 at Richmond
International Raceway.
Wheldon, who wheels the #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone,
recorded a speed of 164.068 miles per hour (22.2712 seconds) during qualifying
today at Milwaukee to secure the 17th starting position for Sunday's running of the
Menards A.J. Foyt Indy 225. At Richmond, Wheldon qualified 20th before going on to
stun the field the next night with a victory.
Wheldon is looking to maintain his position in the fight for the 2004 Indy
Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ Series championship as he heads into tomorrow ranked
second in the point standings. Wheldon trails Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan by
61 points and leads third-place Buddy Rice by 11.
Vitor Meira won the pole for tomorrow's race with a speed of 169.338 miles
per hour (21.5781 seconds). Meira will start alongside Kanaan, who registered a
speed of 168.597 miles per hour (21.6730 seconds). Rice qualified third (168.272
miles per hour) and was followed by Sam Hornish Jr. (168.258 miles per hour) and
Helio Castroneves (168.093 miles per hour).
Sunday's race, which is Round 9 of the 16-race schedule, is set to go green at
3:45 p.m. (EDT) and airs live on ABC with coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT).

Dan Wheldon, #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The Klein Tools/Jim Beam car was just very loose. We've been loose here all
weekend, so we're still struggling with the same thing. But, we'll all put our heads
together and see what we can come up with for tomorrow."

Eddie Jones, Race Engineer, #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam
Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We just need to make sure we come up with a good race car for tomorrow.
On these short ovals, if your car is working well in the race you can often make things
happen. We came from the back at Richmond and won it, so we'll have to come up
with that kind of effort tomorrow."
