AGT AWARDS PRIZES FOR LIME ROCK EVENT

Wilton, CT- The American GT Challenge series distributed the prize fund and awards to teams earned during the July Fourth event held at Lime Rock Park. The monies dispensed were larger in sum than the previous races, showing growth in the series.

Event winner and race pole sitter Eric Curran took home the lion’s share of the prizes for Lime Rock. Curran received a total prize package of $5,300. Curran’s purse included money for the Garden Iron ‘Hammer Down’ pole award ($500), setting the fastest race lap ($500) and a free set of Goodyear Racing radials valued at $1800. 

Edison Lluch [number 72 Don Q/El tuque Corvette] finished second in the AGT race and earned $1500 for his efforts. Lluch also received $200 each for setting the second fastest race lap and qualifying second in the field. Of the $1900 check accepted by the Lajas Racing team, as is standard practice for Lluch, $300 went to the Paul Newman foundation of the Boggy Creek Camp. Edsion was given the Spiral Turbo Baffle award for the race as well, a complete baffle system for one of his cars.

At the Lime Rock race, Jack Busch [number 05 Liefert Motorsports/Spectro Oils/Spiral Turbo Baffles Cutlass] maintained his overall points lead with a third place finish. Busch gained another $1000 for his day’s work.

The Hoerr Charger award went to Peter Mohrhauser [number 00 Retail Maintenance Services Mustang]. The Hoerr Charger award is designed to acknowledge the driver who best improves his overall finishing position in regards to the starting position for the race. Mohrhauser gridded thirteenth while passing seven competitors to finish sixth.

After making his AGT debut, Paul Newman received a total prize package of $1450. Included in the distribution was finishing money along with checks for the second fastest qualifier and second quickest race lap. Newman was given recognition by newGMParts.com for his hardship during the event. Newman while contending for a win had his day ended early by transmission failure.

Veteran road racer Bruce Nesbitt’s day ended prematurely for the number 11 Dimesnion Bond/DuPont Teflon Mustang. Nesbitt endured a high speed off-track excursion ending his day with only minutes remaining in the event. Nesbitt shared in the overall prize fund and also earned a complete set of Goodyear Racing radial via the random drawing. 

Other drivers competing at Lime Rock received a share of the prize money, distributed all the way through the field of finishers. To date, all of the AGT teams have received any awards and prizes due to them. The AGT continues to secure further sponsorship for the series, enabling larger pay outs and prizes.

The American GT Challenge uses purpose built tube frame chassis cars, power by a V-8 & V-6 engine, with composite bodies, replicating series produced American touring or grand touring cars competing exclusively on Goodyear Racing Tires. For more information visit www.americangt.com.
