Kanaan, Team 7-Eleven Prepare for Milwaukee Event

        WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 23, 2004) - Tony Kanaan recorded the eighth-fastest speed
during IRL IndyCar Series practice this afternoon at The Milwaukee Mile, as teams and drivers
began preparation for Sunday afternoon's running of the AJ Foyt 225 presented by Menards.
        Kanaan was among several IndyCar Series drivers to have tested at the nation's oldest
active race track on June 16th. Across the board, that test session proved challenging for the
four-car Andretti Green Racing team, which leads the series with five wins in the first eight
races.
        On Friday, Kanaan showed that progress had been made since the test session, as he
recorded a fast speed of 163.795 miles per hour (22.3084 seconds) in the #11 Team 7-Eleven
Dallara/Honda/Firestone. He posted his best lap during the afternoon session, while logging a
combined total of 72 practice laps over the day's two practice sessions.
        Helio Castroneves topped the chart with a speed of 165.015 miles per hour (21.9922
seconds). He was followed by Scott Dixon at 165.799 miles per hour (22.0388 seconds), while
teammates Vitor Meira (165.270 miles per hour, 22.1093 seconds) and Buddy Rice (165.241
miles per hour, 22.1132 seconds) were third and fourth, respectively. ArcaEx driver Dario
Franchitti recorded the fifth-best overall speed Friday, recording a lap of 165.015 miles per hour.
        Kanaan enters Sunday's event atop the IndyCar Series point standings, leading Klein
Tools/Jim Beam teammate Dan Wheldon by 61 points (325-264).
        Practice for Sunday's race continues Saturday morning, followed by qualifying at 2 p.m.
(EDT).

        "Our goal today was to make the car better for qualifying and the race. Team 7-Eleven is
working together with my three teammates to find different setups for qualifying and the race,
and to see what works the best.  We just need to put all of these different ideas together for
tomorrow's qualifying session."

        "I think its great to be back at The Milwaukee Mile. I've always thought that it's a
fantastic short oval track. It's always a challenge because you have to have a car that handles
well. I think we made some progress today. We have some more work to do, but the advantage
of having three other teammates for Tony is that we can look at all the other information and,
hopefully, gain some performance improvement from that."
