HERTA OPENS MILWAUKEE WEEKEND HOPING TO BUILD ON TEST DATA

       WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 23, 2004) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta
knew there was plenty of work to do coming into this weekend's Indy Racing League
(IRL) IndyCarŽ Series event at The Milwaukee Mile following last month's IRL test
session at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds.
       The June 16th test proved to be challenging across the board for Andretti
Green Racing (AGR), which leads the series with five wins in the first eight races.
But, Herta and his other three AGR teammates opened practice today for Sunday's
225-mile event, hoping to take steps toward another successful race weekend.
       Herta, who wheels the #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone, logged
71 laps over the course of two practice sessions at Milwaukee and recorded a best
lap of 161.459 miles per hour (22.6312 seconds). Herta's numbers ranked 14th
among the 22 cars set to run Round 9 of the 2004 schedule on Sunday.
       Helio Castroneves topped the chart Friday with a speed of 166.150 miles per
hour (21.9922 seconds) and was followed by Scott Dixon at 165.799 miles per hour
(22.0388 seconds). Teammates Vitor Meira and Buddy Rice slotted in third and
fourth with speeds of 165.270 miles per hour and 165.241 miles per hour,
respectively. ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti posted the fifth-best overall practice
speed Friday, turning a lap of 165.015 miles per hour.
       Practice for Sunday's race continues Saturday morning and will be followed by
qualifying at 2 p.m. (Eastern).

       "Our test here was pretty tough, but today was a little better for the XM
Satellite Radio team. We've still got a little work to do, but we're gaining on it. We'll
get back to work tomorrow morning and see what we can get done before qualifying."

       "We're a lot better off than we were at the test, and not just the XM car, but I
think across the whole team. We improved the car in both sessions today. We were
better in the first session than we were at the test and then we improved it again this
afternoon. We still have a little bit of work left to do, but at least we're going in the
right direction. I'm sure glad this is a three-day show."
