CASCAR: Vancouver Indy Qualif. Session #1

CASCAR Super Series
Canadian Tire 100: Qualifying Session #1

Lapcevich takes Friday provisional pole for the Canadian Tire 100 CASCAR
race in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, BC - CASCAR road course dominator Jeff Lapcevich was the class
of the field during Friday afternoon's first qualifying session for the
Canadian Tire 100 Super Series race at the Vancouver Indy. The Tim Hortons
/ Fastline Chevy driver lapped the 12-turn temporary street circuit in a
time of 1 minute and 23.810 seconds.
Second-fastest in the session was Kerry Micks, of Mt. Albert, ON. The
Power Water Ford driver posted his best time early on in Friday's
qualifying session and actually had the best time for several minutes, but
saw his provisional pole position evaporate when Lapcevich nailed his 'hot
lap' closer to the end of the half-hour session. Peter Gibbons was third
fastest in his Canadian Tire Chevy (1:24.564).
A total of 20 drivers recorded times during Qualifying Session #1. Two
competitors experienced mechanical trouble early on and will be looking to
Saturday morning's second (and final) pre-race qualifying session to record
a time. That session is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. and will set the
starting grid for the Canadian Tire 100.
Earlier on Friday, Jeff Lapcevich led the way during the morning practice
session, recording a lap of 1 minute and 24.430 seconds. The effort by the
Caistor Centre, ON competitor was over a half-second better than that of
Don Thomson Jr. (1:25.151). Lapcevich and Thomson finished 'one-two' in the
CASCAR race at the Toronto Indy, two weeks ago.
