Tony Pedregon Awaits Seattle, New Surface
Quaker State Racing Ready for Pacific Northwest

KENT, Wash. (July 22, 2004) A new racing surface will greet Tony Pedregon
and the Quaker State Racing Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car team at this
weekend¹s NHRA national event at Pacific Raceways.

Pedregon, who has qualified second in two of the last three NHRA POWERade
Drag Racing Series events, is optimistic about the team¹s improvement. The
California resident talked about what he expects.

³They have completely repaved the Seattle track, so we have a new surface to
work with,² Pedregon said. ³Now, is that going to allow us to be competitive
during the first two days of qualifying? Only time will tell. As much
advancement as NHRA has made in track preparation, and really the technology
that¹s gone into building a new race track surface I think we can
anticipate conditions a lot better than what we¹ve seen in the past.²

Pedregon has had success at Pacific Raceways, winning the 2002 NHRA national
event and finishing as the runner up in 1997 and 1996.

³We¹ve had some success there,² Pedregon said. ³In fact, it¹s a race that
Dickie Venables (2002) was a co-crew chief stepped in the crew chief
position and won the race. We do have a little bit of history there. This
car, at sea level, is going to be strong.

³We¹re going to go back to our standard set up,² Pedregon continued. ³We
have our qualifying down, now we need to focus on our race day program. I¹ve
really been impressed with our Quaker State products; they¹ve allowed us to
really improve our qualifying program. Quaker State¹s extreme performance
formulations are new and real plus for racing.

³I think we¹ll go back to our standard set up, even with the new Goodyear
tires,² Pedregon added. ³We¹ll adjust. Once again, they made a good call.
The tire is lighter, it puts less stress on the rear end of the car and
seems to be safer. For us to come out of this race having made a lot of
advancements, it does seem like we¹re going in the right direction.²
