Terry Borcheller - Portland preview

back on track

Terry Borcheller is happy to have an American Le Mans Series race at Portland
(Ore.) International Raceway on July 25, just one week after a major
mechanical failure took him out of the series race in Sonoma, Calif. Borcheller, of
Gainesville, Ga., and Johnny Mowlem of London, England, will continue their
quest for GTS class honors, driving the No. 63 ACEMCO Motorsports Saleen S7R for
team owner Jeff Giangrande.

"Jeff said he's glad that we're racing so quickly again and I would have to
echo that. That [double axle failure on the Saleen] was probably the biggest
disappointment of the year for me. Going to Portland so quickly will help put it
behind us," Borcheller said.

The ACEMCO Motorsports team tested in Portland earlier this season, so they
know what it takes to tame the 1.944-mile road course. Borcheller believes
tires will be a key factor.

"I've heard that Pirelli will have a new tire for us here and I really hope
that happens," he said. "We tested here for two days and we learned a
tremendous amount. The biggest thing we learned is the importance of having a tire that
works well at Portland."

off-track

Borcheller is a frequent guest speaker at the Victory Racing Camp in
Portland, which provides encouragement and motivation for teens through go-kart
racing. This week, the group will visit him trackside. The camp organizer, Dave
Black, and Motorsports Ministries pastor Richard Anderson made the visit possible.

Borcheller also stopped en route to Portland to speak to a men's group and to
participate in a church service in Olympia, Wash.
