RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP: Denver
Denver – (July 19, 2004) The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) returned to
action and ventured to the mountains of Colorado at Bandimere Speedway over
the weekend.
Rains on Friday forced NHRA to scrap the day and make two full rounds of
qualifying on Saturday.
The Ringers teams of Greg Anderson (KB Racing Summit Pro Stock), Whit
Bazemore (Don Schumacher Racing Matco Tools Funny Car) and Brandon Bernstein (Bud
King Racing Top Fuel Dragster) all sat atop of the Low Qualifier ladder come
Saturday night.
But Anderson was the only driver to make it to the final round out of the
Low Qualifiers on Sunday.
Bazemore went out first round in an upset to Australian driver Robert
Schwab.
Bernstein made it to the semifinals before he fell to eventual Mopar Mile
High Nationals winner Scott Kalitta.
Bazemore’s teammate, Tony Schumacher (Don Schumacher Army Top Fuel
Dragster) represented Ringers in the finals, but also fell victim to Kalitta.
Cruz Pedregon (Pedregon Racing Advance Auto Parts Funny Car) advanced to
his first final round of the year, but was beat out by the Checker Schucks
Kragen blue driver, Phil Burkart Jr.
Greg Anderson kept his hot streak going, making his 10th POWERade Winner’s
Circle visit of the year.
Anderson beat out fellow Ringers driver Larry Morgan (Don Schumacher
Racing Mopar Pro Stock) with a holeshot, 7.194/191.92 mph run to Morgan’s
7.199/192.06 mph run.
