Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels - Sutton post race

July 19, 2004
Di Leo doubles up at Sutton!
Marco Di Leo wins two classes, Pritiko takes first Formula Senior win

SUTTON, ONTARIO – Round 4 of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship
presented by Toronto Star Wheels saw the teams get back to a purpose built
karting track, 3S Go Karts in Sutton, Ontario. The tight, twisty nature of
the track, means that qualifying is critical to a good finish. Markham’s
Marco Di Leo took that theory to heart, as he took pole in both Canada
Senior Light and Rotax Max Senior – and he went on to win the pre-final
and final in both classes.

Di Leo, has an unbeaten streak going in Rotax Max Senior, but it was
London’s Matt Pritiko, who started a win streak of his own. Pritiko
dominated the headline Formula Senior class all weekend, and he was excited
about the win. “It was close – especially at the end. Tyler [Givogue] was
coming fast, I am happy to have held on for the win.”

Di Leo wasn’t the only driver to keep his win streak alive, as Daniel Morad
once again dominated in Formula Junior. Pearce Herder also kept his streak
alive in Canada Junior Heavy.

Other winners on the weekend were Kevin Monteith, who unseated William
Keatings in World Formula Junior. Corey Usher was a first time winner in
World Formula Senior. Whitby’s Justin Mascoll took his first win of the
year in Canada Senior Heavy.

In the other Junior classes, Christophe Boisclair won Rotax Max Junior,
while JonMichael Ostella took top spot in Canada Junior Light.

The Pratt & Miller Team Spirit Award, which awards teams that are judged to
exhibit the highest levels of teamwork in the areas of presentation,
preparation and results. For the second consecutive time, the award went to
a ‘work’ crew. Sutton suffered a major downpour and subsequent flooding
late on Saturday, that cancelled the remainder of the Saturday schedule. It
also put in very much doubt the entire Sunday schedule – enter Gary Mead
and crew. Mead headed up the volunteer army that worked tirelessly to get
the facility in race shape on Sunday. Mead, his crew, and track owner Enzo
Chiovitti – richly deserved the award.

The GM Racing Winner’s Circle Award, which goes to a driver judged to have
displayed outstanding competition skills and sportsmanship, was awarded to
Matt Pritiko, who dominated the Formula Senior class.

The objective of the the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented
by Toronto Star Wheels is to help foster a professional environment for
kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct
and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the
safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the
racing ladder to automobile racing.
