Strong debut for Sunoco Ultra 94 team at Mosport
Chiovitti, Holtom and Launi all make immediate impact
TORONTO, ONTARIO – The opening four rounds of the 2004
Bridgestone/FormulaCar Magazine F2000 Racing Series were held on July 16-18
at the Driver Development Track at Mosport. The three Sunoco Ultra 94 team
members made an immediate impact on the series with Frank Launi taking a
win in Saturday afternoon’s round 3. Launi also had a third, fourth and
fifth place finishes on the weekend’s other rounds.
“This is good for us,” Launi said. “It is a competitive series and I think
all of the Sunoco Team Ultra 94 drivers will have wins by the time the
season is done.”
In Round 1, Juliana Chiovitti looked good for a win, but a mechanical
failure knocked her out of second place in the late going. “It’s
frustrating,” Chiovitti said. “I was just taking my time. I think I could
have passed James [Hinchcliffe] for the win, but the rear suspension failed
and I had to retire.”
Chiovitti’s luck didn’t get much better as she was called for blocking in
round two that knocked her out of a podium finish.
The third team member, Ottawa’s Jamie Holtom, had a podium finish in round
two, but he was learning throughout the weekend. “Wow, this is really
different,” Holtom said of the F2000 cars in relation to his SCADAPack
Honda. “I tried to adjust as quick as I could, and I did have several good
races during the weekend. I also spent some time spinning! [laughs]. My
teammates are always fast, so I am learning from them and the instructors
here. This really is a good place to learn.”
