China: Hyundai Motor's Pipe Dream or Golden Egg?

SEOUL, July 17, 2004; Lim Bo-mi writing for Yonhap News Service reported that rising sales, improving quality and a widening range of models all seem to point to a fairway for Hyundai Motor Co. to achieve its goal to become one of the world's top five carmakers by the end of the decade.

Hyundai is pinning great hopes on China where it and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp., along with their Chinese affiliates, plan to make and sell a combined 1 million cars a year, a fifth of its 2010 target.
