REICHERT, PAYNE GRAB EARLY LEADS IN CHICAGOLAND
JOLIET, Ill. - In the first rounds of qualifying at Route 66
Raceway for the Chicagoland Dodge Dealers NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing
Series, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Bill Reichert and Top Alcohol Funny
Car pilot Jay Payne took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their
classes.
Reichert, of Owosso, Mich., outran the field with a pass of 5.343
seconds at 266.53 mph. Reichert, who leads the North Central Division
points standings and has two wins and two
runner-up finishes this year, is followed by David Wells with a run of
5.408 seconds at 264.65 mph.
Reichert, a 3-time NHRA Division Champion, picked up wins earlier this
year in Stanton, Mich., and in Houston. Wells also has two wins this
year making trips to the winner's circle in Atlanta and Brainerd, Minn.
Payne from Claremont, Calif., clocked in at 5.669 seconds, 255.34 mph in
his '02 Camaro and is followed by Paul Lee out of Maryland with a 5.761
second lap at 248.98 mph. Payne and Lee have each collected three wins
so far this season.
Mick Snyder is leading the North Central Division and sits in the fourth
qualifying spot in funny car behind Vern Moats of Des Moines, Iowa, in
third.
Judson, Ind., racer Rod Dorsey grabbed the No. 1 spot in Comp.
Eliminator with a run of 9.207 seconds, 0.537 seconds under the index
and is followed by Brian Stufflebeam in his '23 roadster at 7.270, 0.530
seconds under.
Ronnie Terrell put his '85 Camaro on top in Super Stock with a run of
10.447 seconds, 1.103 seconds under the index while Donald Holmes of
Dayton, Ohio, leads Stock Eliminator with an 11.497 second run.
The Top Sportsman class is lead by David Hudson of Braidwood, Ill.,
with a lap of 6.914 seconds at 200.83 mph with Tom Stultz in second at
6.959, 198.88 mph.
Racing continues Saturday at 9 a.m. Gates open at 7 a.m. Tickets
are $19 Saturday and $21 Sunday for adults and children 12 and under are
