Kia releases photos and technical details of new K-series light truck

Kia Motors released the first official photographs and technical specifications of the company’s newest versions of its K-series commercial light truck: the K2700, K2500 TCi, and K3000S. The truck will be sold as the Bongo III in Korea.

Production of the new K-series trucks will commence in August 2004. Ideally positioned between the two major segments of the global light truck market (1.5 box trucks popular in Europe and one-box trucks popular elsewhere), the K-series offers more attractive dimensions and styling than its competitors. In fact, the K-series is 430 mm longer, 45 mm wider, and has a 70 mm longer wheelbase than the Toyota Dyna, making it easy to see why the K-series is the best-selling cab-over light truck in the world market today.

Kia’s Senior Executive Vice-President and COO Yong-Hwan Kim said of the company’s new commercial light truck offerings, “Building on the overwhelming success of its predecessors, Kia’s new K-series is challenging the segment by establishing a new level of style, performance, convenience and dependability.” He added, “Kia understands that the pleasure of driving is directly related to the driver’s environment. Simply put, Kia has developed ‘the’ driver-oriented commercial vehicle. With a more ergonomic interior layout and many new convenience features, Kia has taken the fatigue out of the long haul and replaced it with comfort and refinement.”

The new K-series trucks offer two naturally aspirated diesel engines (2.7 liter and 3.0 liter) and one 2.5 liter TCI diesel engine, each offering power and responsive acceleration perfectly matched to each market’s needs and characteristics, ranging from city transportation to heavy-duty use. Each engine is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission.
