NHRA O'REILLY AUTO PARTS JR. DRAG RACING LEAGUE EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS BRISTOL DRAGWAY THURSDAY, JULY 15, 2004 First day of racing complete for jr. racers at Bristol Dragway BRISTOL, Tenn. - More than 700 NHRA O'Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League competitors, from 16 different eastern U.S. states and eastern Canada, took to the track today for the first day of time trials at the NHRA O'Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League Eastern Conference Finals taking place this weekend at Bristol Dragway. A total of 47 NHRA member tracks are expected to complete for team honors with defending team champions, Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Fla., hoping to defend their team title. In addition to racing for the team championship honors, jr. racers will also race for individual honors in their respective classes and a piece of the $98,000 Eastern Conference Finals purse. The winners of last years event were Kyle Fredricks of Nashua, N.H., Jarrod Downs of Mansfield, Ohio, Nick Chiles of Reedville, Va., Dylan Myers of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Marshall Fowler of Ocean City, Md., Nicole Belmonte of Glenmoore, Pa., Josh Bryson of Hebron, Ky., and Dave Nahill of Maple Shade, N.J. Tomorrow, racers will once again suit up for a round of time trials with the first round of eliminations in each of the eight age categories set to follow in the afternoon. Gates will open tomorrow at 7 a.m. Time trials for all categories will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eliminations are set to begin in the afternoon, immediately following time trials.
