The Delphi volume increase is the result of an earlier development agreement that was announced by SIRIUS Satellite Radio and the Chrysler Group. The announcement spelled out SIRIUS Satellite Radio's and the Chrysler Group's plans to make satellite radio service available to more customers through factory installation programs.
Chrysler Group first selected Delphi two years ago in a multi-year manufacturing agreement as its supplier of SIRIUS Satellite Radio capable receivers for new Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep(R) vehicles for the North American market. The majority of these units were installed as dealer-installed options.
In the latest announcement for SIRIUS-ready satellite radio factory installations, Chrysler vehicles offering the feature include the exciting new Chrysler 300, the PT Cruiser, Town and Country, Pacifica, Dodge Magnum, Caravan, Durango, Ram and Dakota pickups, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Liberty.
"We are certainly excited about supplying additional units to the Chrysler Group for SIRIUS satellite radio receivers," said Beth Schwarting, general director of sales and marketing at Delphi Electronics & Safety Division. "We are delighted to be a leader in the satellite radio market with its growing popularity and booming growth rates. Consumer interest in the satellite radio option for their new vehicles has been great."
Delphi is a leading manufacturer and provider of OEM and retail radio hardware and has produced more than 2 million satellite radio receivers.
"Satellite radio and its programming adds a great deal of value to motorists ranging from short distance commuters all the way to long distance professional over the road drivers and everyone in between," said Schwarting. "Our feedback shows that satellite radio is making trips more convenient and enjoyable for a growing number of passengers and drivers."
Starting in 1936, Delphi was the first manufacturer to integrate a factory-installed in-dash radio in the instrument panel of a vehicle and has pioneered much of the progress of wireless mobile entertainment since that time. The company has produced more than 255 million audio units and led the way in introducing innovation for mobile audio entertainment throughout its history. Delphi Electronics & Safety Division features a full line of wireless and multimedia products as well as electronics and safety products for powertrain, integrated body and chassis and safety.
