Christmas in July at SSP on Thursday
Contact: Todd Fisher (717) 292-1696 -FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Santa Claus Visits SSP on Thursday for Christmas in July NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (July 13, 2004) – This Thursday night, July 15, SSP will host its Christmas in July with a special guest appearance by Santa Claus along with the 410 Sprint Cars, Xtreme Enduro Stock Cars and the PA Four Cylinders. All children 12 and under will be able to participate in Santa’s Toy Scramble before the feature events. The One-On-One Street Car Drags will return as well which is a competition between street legal cars and trucks right off the street. Races will be from a dead start with two participants starting side-by-side. They will take one lap around the track with the winner advancing to the next round and the loser eliminated from the competition. The final race will see the two “ survivors” in a winner-take-all paying $250.00. Jason Goodling from York Haven won the last one-on-one drags on June 3 in his 1990 Eagle Talon and is ineligible for competition in this event. Entries are limited to the first sixteen and SSP has already received ten entries for the event. Entries will be taken at the pit gate on the day of the event. The PA Four Cylinder feature event is sponsored by the John Wentzel Body Shop and pays $300.00 to win. Many activities for the kids and new traditions have begun at SSP which include all children 12 and under being able to visit victory lane after the Sprint Car feature to have their picture as a group with the winning driver. Fans may also view the Sprint Car pit area which is located behind the turn one grandstand. A new walkway to view this pit area will be constructed this weekend and should be ready for the June 22nd night of racing. Gates open in the pit area at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 7:00 p.m. with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12) $4.00; and Children (5 & under) are free. SSP will continue its Repeat Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00 discount for each person with a ticket stub from the July 8 event only. For example, $2.00 off an Adult ticket for July 15 with and Adult ticket stub from the July 8 event. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into a special drawing to be held at the end of the season. Prizes will be announced soon. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all track license holders. A track license is $25.00 for the year. The raindate will be Sunday night, July 18 with the same time schedule. The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. SSP News and Notes: - A.R.C.H. (Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown) Fan Night will be Thursday night, July 22. All A.R.C.H. members will receive a $1.00 discount on general admission tickets for the remainder of the 2004 racing season. This is similar to the discount for the York County Racing Club. A membership card must be shown to receive the discount. - The Faster Pastor Race originally scheduled for Thursday, August 5 has been postponed until Thursday, September 23 due to scheduling conflicts with many Vacation Bible Schools. In its place, a twelve lap School Bus Race will take place on Thursday night, August 5. - The post season awards for the 2004 SSP 410 Sprint Car Points Championship will be three (3) 2005 Season Pit Passes for the championship team (Value = $1,500). Drivers finishing second through fifth will receive two (2) 2005 Season Pit Passes (Value = $1,000 per team). Drivers finishing sixth through tenth will receive one (1) 2005 Season Pit Pass (Value = $500 per team). The complimentary driver’s pit pass for all licensec members will also be in effect again for 2005.
