LogicLibrary, Volvo and IBM to Co-Present Case Study on Leveraging Patterns within a Service-Oriented Architecture

LogicLibrary, Volvo Information Technology and IBM Rational will host a Design and Construction Case Study on Wednesday, July 21, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Rational Software Development User Conference in Grapevine, Texas. The event, titled "Leveraging IBM(R) Rational XDE(TM) Patterns within a Service-oriented Architecture Based Enterprise Architecture Initiative," will be led by Brent Carlson, co-founder and vice president of technology for LogicLibrary, Ludwik Wallin, chief architect at Volvo Information Technology, and Grant Larsen, senior technical staff member at IBM Rational.

In this presentation, software developers will have the opportunity to learn about Volvo Information Technology's major enterprise architecture initiative to deliver a framework that could be used to develop core business services into a service-oriented architecture, and how in using LogicLibrary's Logidex to deliver and manage IBM(R) Rational XDE (TM) assets, Volvo successfully accomplished its mission. The case study will provide in-depth technical insight and give developers practical knowledge necessary to create better software. Included in the case study session will be a demonstration of Logidex, IBM Rational XDE and Visual Studio cross-product integration.

BRENT CARLSON, vice president of technology and co-founder, LogicLibrary, Inc.

Carlson drives the development and delivery of LogicLibrary's products. He is a 17-year veteran of IBM, where he served as lead architect for the WebSphere Business Components project and held numerous leadership roles on the "IBM SanFrancisco Project." Carlson is the co-author of two books: SanFrancisco Design Patterns: Blueprints for Business Software (with James Carey and Tim Graser) and Framework Process Patterns: Lessons Learned Developing Application Frameworks (with James Carey). He is also a frequent presenter at industry conferences and regional user groups. He is a BEA Regional Director and was named to InfoWorld's 2004 list of CTOs to watch. Carlson holds 16 software patents, with eight more currently under evaluation.

LUDWIK WALLIN, chief architect, Volvo Information Technology

Ludwik has worked a number of years as a Software Architect and he has been coaching several development projects which used modeling tools from Rational and followed the Rational Unified Process (RUP). The last three years his work has been focused on improving the software architecture work at Volvo Information Technology by using RUP together with modeling tools such as Rose and XDE by creating architectural frameworks. He is Global Manager for Software Architecture Product Area at Volvo Information Technology.

GRANT LARSEN, senior technical staff member, IBM Rational

Grant Larsen is a senior technical staff member at IBM Rational software and has been working in the software development field for eighteen years. At KPMG Peat Marwick's Advanced Technologies practice he applied object-oriented solutions. At Rational Software Grant had multiple roles including product development for Rational Rose, services, and business development. Grant was a member of the UML committee for Rational and published portions of that specification. Grant has published articles for multiple magazines, has been a guest editor and contributed to other books on frameworks and related technologies. Grant has worked to establish industry standards on specifying reusable assets, known as the Reusable Asset Specification (RAS) and its submission to the OMG. Grant currently drives pattern strategies and implementation at IBM Rational.
