Stremme and the TRIMSPA / US99*5 Dodge Bumped Out of Contention in Chicago

Joliet, IL (July 11, 2004) – Team TRIMSPA driver David Stremme qualified 11th
for this weekend’s Twister 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. Stremme’s TRIMSPA
X32 Dodge was strong in the first and second practice sessions, posting the
second and fifth fastest times respectively. From the drop of the green Stremme’s
ride was right on the money, producing some of the best lap times, tire wear,
and handling all season.

“The guys on the TRIMSPA Team prepared an excellent car this weekend,” said
Stremme. “I can hardly remember the last time we didn’t have a top ten car.
We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time this weekend.”

Stremme climbed into the seventh position by the first pit stop on lap 45
despite a slightly loose handling condition in the middle of the turns. Shortly
after the restart on lap 48, bad luck bit Stremme yet again. While battling for
seventh with the No. 87 of Joe Nemechek and the No. 8 of Martin Truex Jr.,
Stremme was knocked into the outside retaining wall when Truex overdrove his car
into Turn 1, floating up the banking and collecting Stremme in high lane.
Stremme’s TRIMSPA X32 Dodge sustained the most damage, and he pulled it behind
the wall for repairs on lap 53.

“I’m upset at Truex for driving it in so hard and taking us out,” admitted
Stremme. “We are friends and I am sure at the end of the day we will work it
out. But it definitely cost the TRIMSPA team the most.”

Stremme rejoined the race on lap 121 soldiering on to pick up two more
positions to 36th by the end of the race. After twelve straight weeks of
competition, Stremme and Team TRIMSPA will enjoy a rare weekend off before heading to
compete at New Hampshire International Speedway in the New England 200 on July
24th. The event will be televised live at 1 p.m. eastern time on TNT and will
broadcast nationally at that same time on radio stations affiliated with Motor
Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
