JELLEY GOES TOPLESS FOR 2ND WIN AT LEBANON VALLEY

JELLEY GOES TOPLESS FOR 2ND WIN AT LEBANON VALLEY

July 10, 2004

West Lebanon, NY- Wayne Jelley was victorious in the 30-lap modified feature at Lebanon Valley Speedway Saturday night. It was the second career modified victory for the Pownal, Vermont native. It was topless night at the track! Which meant that the modified and sportsman cars ran without roofs and upper rear quarter panels. K.C. Goewey continued his winning ways in the sportsman division by winning the 20-lap main event. Chris Crews captured his first victory of the season in the 20-lap pro stock feature. George Miles Jr won the rookie pro stock feature.

The pure stock feature winners were awarded one hundred dollars for winning their main events compliments of the Bedell family in memory of Robert "Boomer" Bedell. Those winners included Larry Ball, Chrissy Hilt, Pete DeFiglio and Mark Stevens. Dan Besten Enterprises and Taconic DSL were the night's main sponsors. A special thanks to Dan Besten for the additional money he handed out to the winners as well.

Andy Bachetti's string of mechanical woes put him on the front row for the start of the 30-lap modified feature. He was looking to make the most of this chance and he jumped out to a sizable advantage quickly. Problems for Brett Hearn on lap two as he suffered a right front flat tire. Hearn would continue and finish tenth. Wayne Jelley moved his K&F Modular Homes #45 into the runner-up position on a lap eight restart. John Hewitt got bumped and spun down the frontstretch. Hewitt did a whale of a job not hitting anything and was able to continue. At the halfway point it was Bachetti, Jelley, Guy Sheldon, Rich Ricci Jr and Kenny Tremont Jr.

Just as it looked like Tremont might catch a break in the point standings with Hearn having problems it didn't happen. Tremont had a right rear tire go flat on lap 15 while running in the top five. Just three laps later something in the power plant let go relegating him to a 27th place finish and knocking him out of the point lead.

Bachetti was walking away with the race when disaster struck on lap 22. The right rear tire on his racer went flat effectively ending his chance at victory. This handed the lead over to Jelley. No one could catch Jelley's PMC chassis with motors by Jeff Dean on this night and he took his second career modified victory at the high banks. "The PMC cars were awesome tonight, I don't think I had anything for Bachetti but that's racing and we will take the win." Sheldon had a strong second place performance with Ricci third, Brian Berger fourth and J.R. Heffner fifth.

Poover Daley was the early race leader in the 20-lap sportsman feature. Art Collins moved into the top five by lap four. But on lap six he got spun around in turn two and had to go to the back of the pack. Collins night would go from bad to worse as he pitted on lap 12 and the crew changed the right rear tire. Collins would only complete on more lap before retiring from the event and was a DNF for the second week in a row. Jeff Watson moved passed Daley for the lead on a lap eight restart. K.C. Goewey wheeled his Team Goewey KIA into second on the same lap. Goewey wasted little time and took the lead from Watson on lap eleven.

No more caution flags after lap 12 allowed Goewey to pull away and he crossed the finish line almost a full straight away ahead of Watson. Daley had a career best third place finish. Ed Harkin was fourth and Bobby Knipe rounded out the top five.

Only two caution flag periods slowed the 20-lap pro stock feature. Tom Brandt was the early race leader and held off a challenge by Jay Corbin early in the race. Brandt held the top spot until lap eleven. Chris Crews muscled his way past Brandt and into the lead with Jim Langenback close in tow. The second half of the race was quite a show as the wily veteran; Langenback tried to get past Meehan & Co #5 of Crews. Rob Yetman entered into the picture and was in contention for the win as well. Crews and Langenback ran door to door several times in the closing stages of the race, but in the end Crews was able to hold on for his first victory of the season. Langenback was second, Yetman third,

Danny Sanchez fourth and Brandt hung on for fifth.
