NOTES OF INTEREST: In the height of summer heat, the ARCA RE/MAX Series, after back-to-back short track treasures in Virginia and Michigan, steer toward Kentucky Speedway in Sparta KY for the Kentucky 150 on 700 WLW Pole Night Friday night, July 9. The race, which serves as the preamble to the next-day NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Built Ford Tough 225, is LIVE on SPEED Channel at 8 pm eastern. The event marks the 9th appearance of the RE/MAX Series at the renowned 1.5-mile northern Kentucky superspeedway palace since its debut there in 2000. Current points leader and 5-time series champion Frank Kimmel is the all-time RE/MAX Series winner at Kentucky with 3 victories followed by Kyle Busch, Ryan Hemphill, Ryan Newman, Tim Steele and Chad Blount, all of whom have 1. With a potent mix of series veterans and ultra-hungry rookies, the entry list for the Kentucky 150 on 700 WLW Pole Night is very stout indeed. From the veteran ranks Kimmel comes to KY on the heels of back-to-back short-track wins at South Boston and Berlin. Other vets entered include 2-time Daytona ARCA 200 winner Bobby Gerhart, 2nd in points Brent Sherman, 3rd-generation racers Billy Venturini and Jason Jarrett and 23-year series campaigner and 4-time series winner Mark Gibson. The rookie crop is equally impressive with Apollo PA hot-shoe Ryan Hemphill leading the way with 3 wins already this year at Kentucky, Lowe's and Kansas. In addition, Justin Hobgood, who set a new 1-lap track record at MIS earlier this year and finished 2nd in his series debut at Lowe's, is entered out of Don Arnold's NASCAR Nextel Cup Series stable. Plus, Hendrick Motorsports Busch/Cup developmental driver Boston Reid will make his first Kentucky appearance. Second-generation drivers David Ragan and Josh Clemons are also expected to add to the already strong rookie flavor in the field. Additionally, series veterans will have to deal with the standard '04 rookie invasion from AJ Fike (coming off a career-best 2nd place finish at Berlin), leading ARCA Rookie of the Year contender TJ Bell (5th at Berlin) and 18-year-old Brandon Knupp. Bell leads Fike by just 6 points in the ROY chase headed to KY. Second generation driver Brian Keselowski, son of 1989 ARCA RE/MAX Series driving champion Bob Keselowski, is also entered. Bob Keselowski also fields a Craftsman Truck Series team for another son Brad.
