Klein Tools/Jim Beam Driver Dan Wheldon
Qualifies 13th at Kansas
Kansas City, Kansas (July 3, 2004) - Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan Wheldon
qualified 13th today for the Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series Argent Mortgage Kansas
Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway. The 26-year-old Brit posted a best speed of 207.151 miles
per hour around the 1.5-mile oval.
Wheldon, currently second in the IndyCar Series championship standings, ran his
fastest lap of the day during the qualifying session. The Klein Tools/Jim Beam team worked
on race balance during a morning practice session and is confident the setup will be strong
during tomorrow's event.
Buddy Rice won his third pole of the year with a speed of 210.141 miles per hour.
Rice edged out Wheldon's Andretti Green teammate, Tony Kanaan, who will start on the
outside of the front row after posting a speed 209.681 miles per hour. Vitor Meira, who
posted season-best finish of second last week at Richmond, will start third with a speed of
209.342 miles per hour.
The Argent Mortgage Kansas Indy 300, Round 7 of the IndyCar Series schedule, will

Dan Wheldon, Driver, #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We are having a similar problem to what we had at Texas and we just don't know
why we're struggling right now. I'm very disappointed for the whole Klein Tools/Jim Beam
crew because we've had a strong season so far. It's okay to have a problem as long as you
can solve it and I'm totally confident in my team that we will be running up front here."
Eddie Jones, Race Engineer, #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We're confident that we have a very good race car and Dan is driving extremely well
right now, so I think you'll see us coming from the back once again. I think the track is
going to allow us to make some passes and the Klein Tools/Jim Beam car should move up
to the front."
