Herta, the defending champion at Kansas, began this morning where he left off last year by leading all drivers in practice. The XM Satellite Radio crew was confident heading into qualifying, but they were unable to find any more speed as the weather conditions changed dramatically. A heavy layer of clouds broke by the time the cars went out to qualify, drastically changing the temperature of the track. Last year, Herta started in the 11th position and went on to win. Buddy Rice won his third pole of the year with a speed of 210.141 miles per hour. Rice edged out Herta's Andretti Green teammate, Tony Kanaan, who will start on the outside of the front row after posting a speed 209.681 miles per hour. Vitor Meira, who posted his season-best finish of second last week at Richmond, will start third with a speed of 209.342 miles per hour. The Argent Mortgage Kansas Indy 300, Round 7 of the IndyCar Series schedule, will start tomorrow at 12:45 p.m. (EDT).
