JOEY SCARALLO SCORES THIRD CONSECUTIVE TOP-FIVE FINISH AT CLEVELAND
CLEVELAND (July 2, 2004) Joey Scarallo, driver of the No. 06 ROH Wheels/Group A Autotrend/Toyo Tires Chevrolet Corvette, scored his third-straight top-five finish, finishing fifth in todayıs Trans-Am on the Tarmac, Round 4 of the 2004 Motorock Trans-Am Series title chase, at Cleveland. Scarallo started ninth and earned his second-straight VP Fuel Hard Charger Award for improving the most positions during the race. Proving the third time really is a charm, Scarallo, who struggled all weekend chasing the setup of his car, raced side by side with Trans-Am veteran Greg Pickett and won. Pickett is the 1978 Trans-Am champion and is looking to become the first driver to win a race in each of four decades of competition. ³Racing toe to toe with driver like Pickett, who is a well-respected competitor, and coming in ahead of him may earn me more respect as a serious driver,² said Scarallo. ³It was cool racing against Greg. ³I raced hard and I raced clean,² added Scarallo. ³It was a great race and we had a good run. Iım ready for the next race at Toronto now.² A long-time racer, Scarallo has been in the driverıs seat since he was 11, racing karts in the Long Island Karting Association, where he won three championships in 1993. Scarallo also won championships in the International Karting Federation in 1996, and he recorded three top-ten finishes in the U.S. F2000 where he finished 14th in series points. He ran a limited schedule in 1997, scoring 11th- and 12th-place finishes in his three starts. Scarallo competed in the Toyota Atlantic Series in 2000. The oldest of four siblings, Scarallo, 25, lives in Smithtown, N.Y. Scarallo manages Autotrend Tire and Wheel Company Inc., his familyıs wheel importing business in Lindenhurst, N.Y. Scarallo will race next at the Molson Indy in Toronto, Ontario on July 11.
