Wheelie Contest at SSP on Thursday
Contact: Todd Fisher (717) 292-1696 -FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pennsylvania Speedweeks Comes to SSP on Thursday NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (June 29, 2004) – This Thursday night, July 1, SSP will host the annual Pennsylvania Speedweeks for the 410 Sprint Cars along with the Xtreme Enduro Stock Cars. The Central Pennsylvania Sprint Car Stars will all converge at SSP for the $4,000-to-win 30 lap feature event. Following the feature events, there will be a $1,000-to-win Sprint Car Wheelie Contest in which the fans will decide the winner. Driver will receive 3 laps to “put on their best show.” The Wheelie Contest is presented by The Beer Hill Gang and M & M Electric. Race fans will also join in the activities as there will be two fan participation contest for both the adults and children presented by “ Racing Fans Direct.” Gates open in the pit area at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with time trials beginning at 7:30 p.m. Race fans can expect a fast paced program although time trials have been added to the program. Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 & older) $20.00; Teens (13-17) $10.00; Children (6-12) $5.00; and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices will be $25.00 with a reduced price of $20.00 for all track license holders. A track license is $25.00 for the year. There will be no Sunday raindate for this event due to the PA Speedweeks event already scheduled at the Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, PA. The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. SSP News and Notes: - The new 410 Sprint Car Pit Area has been completed. All haulers from all divisions will now enter the pits through the Kise Mill Road / Turn 2 entrance. This new area will provide the fans a more intimate look at the Sprint Car pits as crews can be seen preparing their cars for the events. Anyone 14 years of age and older may purchase a pit pass. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to enter the pits. - SSP will feature Kid’s Box Car Racing on Thursday, July 8. All children 12 and under will be admitted free if they decorate a box and compete in the races. All kids are encouraged to make a racecar out of a box (with their arms, legs and head sticking out). Two family members or friends are needed for the pit crew. This will be a two-(2) lap race (on the frontstretch) with a pit stop. The pit stop will include taking off and putting shoes back on both feet for tire changes, washing the face to clean windshield and drinking a drink for fuel. Children can also win great prizes for the best looking car! Racing divisions include the 410 Sprint Cars, Xtreme Enduro Stock Cars and the Legends Cars. - Thursday, July 15 will be Christmas in July at SSP as Santa will make an appearance and host a special Children’s Toy Scramble. Also, racing that evening will be the 410 Sprint Cars, the Xtreme Enduro Stock Cars and the PA 4 Cylinders. The return of the One-on-One Street Car drags will also take place. Entry forms can be found on the sspracing.net website. The entries will be limited to 16, so prospective participants are encouraged to enter now. - A revised handicapping and lineup system for the 410 Sprint Cars will go into effect on Thursday, July 8. Driver’s average will be based on the last three races and not the entire year. A driver not competing in the last three races will receive 110 points for each event missed that will be computed in figuring their average points only. The feature winner receives 100 points and will still start 12th in the next event if they qualify in the handicap spots.
