Mike Roth wins Formula Senior street fight in Barrie
BARRIE, ONTARIO - The majority of the Senior class action at the Barrie
Grand Prix, site of the third round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting
Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels was run on Sunday. The only
Senior class that ran on Saturday, Canada Senior Light, was won by Aaron de
Heus. Newmarket's Mike Roth took the coveted Formula Senior win on Sunday.
Other Senior class winners were Woodstock's Corey Usher in World Formula
Senior, Markham's Marco Di Leo in RotaxMax Senior and Belle River's Dave
Patrick in Canada Senior Heavy.
Formula Senior - Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Mike Roth, Newmarket,
Ontario
A huge field of 31 Formula Senior drivers turned up a Barrie, and the top
15 drivers were all within one second of the pole. Roth took the win in the
pre-final over Wasaga Beach's Cale Meeks and Orillia's Cale Mead. In the
final, Roth was able to thwart several threats to his lead and take the win
over Mead and Fonthill's Matt Champagne.
RotaxMax Senior - Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Marco Di Leo,
Markham, Ontario
Barrie saw the most entries ever for a Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting
Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels class - an amazing 78 entries
for RotaxMax Senior. Di Leo took the pole, but the top 18 were all within
one second of the fastest qualifier. In the last chance race, Hamilton's
Devan Matkovich took the win and the top 14 transferred to the final. Di
Leo fouled a plug on the original start, but a red flag on lap two caused a
complete restart, and Di Leo got his pole position back. He converted that
into a win over Fonthill's Matt Champagne and Etobicoke's Robert Wickens.
World Formula Senior- Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Paul Carvalho,
Gilford, Ontario
Oshawa's Nick Narini won the pre-final over North York's Chris Martin and
Woodstock's Corey Usher. In the final, Martin won on the track, but was
dq'd in tech. That gave the win to Usher. Rounding out the podium was
Maple's Adriano Bilotta and Simcoe's Lloyd Shearer.
Canada Senior Heavy - Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Aaron de Heus,
Uxbridge, Ontario
De Heus was able to turn his pole into a pre-final win over Belle River's
Dave Patrick, and Bowmanville's Eric Nielsen. In the final, Patrick took
the win over Leamington's Dale Bonham and de Heus.
Canada Senior Light - Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Jennifer Rempel,
Leamington, Ontario
Uxbridge's Aaron de Heus rebounded from a fourth place qualifying effort -
0.082 off pole - to take the prefinal win over Whitby's Justin Mascoll and
Belle River's Dave Patrick. Rempel fell back to ninth, but in the final,
she drove back to third, just behind Windsor's Marc Stehle and de Heus.
