KANAAN LANDS FIFTH-PLACE FINISH FOR
TEAM 7-ELEVEN AT RICHMOND

RICHMOND, Virginia (June 26, 2004) -Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan overcame a
disappointing qualifying effort to post a fifth-place finish Saturday night in the Indy Racing League (IRL)
IndyCar® Series SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond International Raceway.
Kanaan, who started from the 10th position on the starting grid, charged the #11 Team 7-Eleven
Dallara/Honda/Firestone from the outside of Row 5, advancing to fourth place by lap 10. He remained
among the top five until he pitted under yellow flag conditions on lap 113, eventually rejoining the field in
eighth place.
Again, Kanaan charged forward, rising as high as third place by lap 175 of the 250-lap event. A
final round of yellow flag stops on lap 192 dropped the Brazilian to sixth, but again he moved forward,
taking his eventual fifth-place finishing position by lap 223.
With his fifth-place finish, Kanaan stands as the only IRL IndyCar Series driver to have recorded
a top-10 in each of the six races during the 2004 season, and maintains his lead in the series standings
over Klein Tools/Jim Beam teammate and race winner, Dan Wheldon (240-225). After starting the season
with an eighth-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Kanaan has finished first (Phoenix), second
(Twin Ring Motegi), second (Indianapolis), first (Texas) and fifth.
Kanaan and the rest of the IndyCar Series teams return to action next week at the Kansas
Speedway for the Argent Mortgage - Kansas Indy 300 on July 4.

Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"It was a good race. We got what we could. In the position we were in, we couldn't gamble like
Dan (Wheldon) did, so I'm happy for him. One more win for the Andretti Green Racing team and four out
of the six races, so we are looking pretty strong. I'm happy, I gained a lot of points and am still leading the
championship. And, from now on, that's what I'm going to do, keep leading the championship."

Kim Green, President, Andretti Green Racing:
"We had a pretty tough weekend with rain-shortened practice on Friday, and not having tested
here. We had our work cut out for us on qualifying. We made a lot of changes in warm-up and had a
good warm-up. We had a good car for the race. Our teammate, Dan (Wheldon), made a gamble on pit
strategy after starting at the back of the field and it paid off for him. Overall, I'm just so proud of everyone
on Team 7-Eleven and everybody at Andretti Green Racing. This is what teamwork is all about; teamwork
with everybody -- the drivers, crews and engineers -- working together. We produced good race cars from
cars which weren't so brilliant in qualifying. I'm just proud of everybody at Andretti Green Racing."
