BAM! - Mid-Ohio qualifying
25s ...
BAM! (British American Motorsport) will start 12th on the GT grid for
Sunday's American Le Mans Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Peter Baron
qualified the No. 43 YES Network Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in one minute 25.710 seconds
on the 2.25-mile road course. He and Leo Hindery, Jr. will share driving duty
in the two-hour 45-minute race. Baron is now the co-owner of BAM!, so he has
driven in only one race in eight months.
"I'm still rusty, but things were a lot better today than they were
yesterday," he said. "If we could have posted this time yesterday and then built off
that, we would be in the hunt. We have a setup that should be pretty comfortable
on the tires, so we should have good tire wear. If we are able to run 25s
[1:25 lap times] tomorrow for a stint, that should be a respectable time."
FANatic Forum
Leo Hindery, Jr. participated in the ALMS FANatic Forum at Mid-Ohio on
Saturday, an open discussion with racers and fans. Champion Audi driver JJ Lehto and
Intersport driver Clint Field were also on the panel, as were Porsche
Motorsport North America president Uwe Brettel and ALMS CEO Scott Atherton. Hindery
was impressed with the fans who attended.
"I thought the fan forum was spectacular because of the quality of the
questions and the diversity of the fans, who came from all over the country for this
race," he said. "It shows what you can do if you put a good race on a nice
track with great cars and drivers. The questions were as entertaining and fun
and informed as any I've ever encountered. It was a privilege to sit up there
with JJ and Clint and listen to Uwe Brettel, who had a lot to say about the
class I'm most interested in, which is GT. I was humbled by the quality of the
questions and the fans and how far they'd come to see this race."
