AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Pump Prices Continue Downward Trend

HOUSTON--June 25, 2004--For the fourth consecutive week, pump prices in Texas dropped, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.

The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $1.925 a gallon, 3.9 cents lower than last week's average, but 43 cents higher than last year's average. The Texas average for a gallon of regular self-serve fell 4 cents to $1.818 a gallon.

Corpus Christi has the cheapest fuel at $1.731 a gallon, down 4.2 cents since last week. San Antonio posted the biggest weekly drop of 6.1 cents to $1.770 a gallon. Dallas tops the list at $1.851 a gallon, down 3.1 cents compared to a week ago.

"Pump prices in Texas have dropped ten cents a gallon within the last month," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "This downward trend is expected to continue for the next several days. However, it's difficult to know which direction fuel prices will head when the Fourth of July holiday draws nearer."

AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for automobile trips.
