Nissan Southwest Region to Open Its First African-American Owned Dealership; Nissan to Recognize Historic Event During Groundbreaking Ceremony at New Facility Location

LOS ANGELES--June 22, 2004--Nissan North America, Inc.'s (NNA) Southwest Region will make history today when it breaks ground on its first African-American owned dealership in Fontana, Calif. Fontana Nissan will be completed in early 2005 and will be operated by Marcellus Wims, a 12-year veteran of the automotive industry.

Wims' appointment as dealer-principal of Fontana Nissan supports NNA's commitment to improving business results by establishing a more diverse dealer network as part of Nissan's Corporate Diversity Initiative. To-date, NNA has increased its number of African-American owned dealerships nationwide by over 150% since the launch of the initiative in 1998.

"Nissan's dealer body and diversity commitments play a critical role in the achievement of Nissan's sales and profitability goals," said Kent Brawner, vice president, southwest region at NNA. "Nissan is privileged to have Wims, a seasoned leader in the automotive industry, as a member of the Nissan team."

NNA and the Housing and Business Development Department of the City of Fontana will celebrate the official groundbreaking ceremony at the future location of Fontana Nissan on Tuesday, June 22, at 9:00 a.m., near the I-210 Freeway & Citrus Ave. (northeast corner of Cypress and South Highland). Nissan executives, city officials and Fontana residents will be present to celebrate the start of construction of the new dealership and to honor Wims.

"Nissan is making international headlines with its financial resurgence and incredible new product line-up," said Wims. "It's an exciting time to join the Nissan family, and I am looking forward to utilizing my expertise to meet the needs of Nissan's increasingly diverse customer base and to help Nissan exceed its global objectives."
