            (District 1)

   WHEN: Wednesday, June 23, 2004

WHY: Each year, tens of thousands of children are killed or injured
due to motor vehicle related incidents. The second leading
cause of death and serious injuries to children in California is
pedestrian incidents and 62 percent of all child pedestrian
            fatalities were Hispanic.

Traditionally, better state laws and stricter enforcement have
been implemented to address this issue, as well as tougher
federal safety standards and improved vehicle design. It is
equally important for individuals to take the proper
precautionary measures, and to reinforce safe driving among
            commuters.

Hyundai Motor America is proud to announce its continued
commitment to traffic safety and will showcase the new tools
developed in conjunction with LAPD and LAUSD to raise community
awareness among children, and adults, to help reduce the
alarming statistics related to motor vehicle collisions.

Editor's note: Please check-in at school's main office for directions to
event location. Representatives from Los Angeles Police Department, Los
Angeles Unified School District School Safe Traffic Zone, Kid Watch L.A.
and Hyundai Motor America, will be available for one-on-one interviews.
