Stremme Battles Back to Finish Ninth at Kentucky
Sparta, KY (June 19, 2004) – TRIMSPA driver David Stremme celebrated his
27th birthday in style Saturday by posting a ninth-place finish at Kentucky
Speedway. Stremme started the Meijer 300 from the 13th position and immediately
climbed into the ninth spot by lap two. By the first pit stop, on lap 63
under caution, Stremme was up to seventh place. However, a penalty for a loose
lug nut forced Stremme to bring the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge in for a second stop the
following lap. Stremme then restarted in the 22nd position.
“The TRIMSPA Dodge was tight in traffic for most of the race, but strong on
the long runs,” said Stremme. “We had our work cut out for us to get back up
front after the penalty. But everyone pulled together and stayed on top of
their game. The result was we left with a top 10 and our race car in one
piece. A good day.”
Stremme skillfully climbed back through the field and into the fifth
position by lap 184. With less than ten cars left on the lead lap, the TRIMSPA Team
elected to put on two tires to gain valuable track position for the final
15-lap shootout. Stremme restarted fourth but in the closing laps it was obvious
that the left-side tires on the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge were severely worn, as the
car had picked up a bad push in the turns. Stremme held on to finish in ninth
 position.
“Taking two tires was a gamble that ended up hurting us in the end,” said
Stremme. “We were in a position to go for the win. It was the right call at the
time. I am just proud of the TRIMSPA Team for working really hard and
bringing home a good finish.”
Team TRIMSPA will hit the track this Saturday for the Alan Kulwicki 250
Busch Series race at the Milwaukee Mile. The event will be televised live
Saturday, June 26th at 9:00 p.m. eastern time on FX and will broadcast nationally at
that same time on radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN)
and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
