HEARN WINS 300TH CAREER DIRT MODIFIED FEATURE

JUNE 19, 2004

West Lebanon, NY-For the third time this season Brett Hearn won the 30-lap modified feature at Lebanon Valley. It also marked his 300th career big block DIRT modified victory. Ryan Larkin was victorious in the 20-lap sportsman feature while Scott Govertsen won the 20-lap pro stock event. George Miles Jr won the rookie pro stock main and Tom Harkins, Glenn Miller, Pete Wiegand and Mike Eichstedt all won pure stock mains. A special thank you goes out to our three main sponsors' on the night ANDERSON EQUIPMENT CO, TACONIC DSL and TIME WARNER CABLE. It was also kiddie ride night at the track which is always a big hit with the youngsters.

Matt Quinn and John Hewitt led the field down to the start of the 30-lap modified feature. Quinn was looking to shake the bad luck that has plagued him from the start of the 2004 season and he jumped out to the early advantage. It was a tough night for Andy Bachetti as motor issues hampered him all evening and forced him to retire from the race on the first lap. Hearn seemed to have chosen the right setup for the Gable-Budweiser #1 and was into the top five by the third lap. Hearn then moved into third by lap nine. As the race neared the halfway point the top three cars were nose to tail. Heavy lapped traffic hampered the leaders and had the fans on the edge of their seats.

Hearn made a daring move in lapped traffic around Hewitt and Quinn to grab the lead on lap 14. Problems for Kenny Tremont on lap 16 as he has a right rear tire go flat. He would return to finish tenth. While under caution for Tremont, Matt Quinn made a sudden move for the pits and was done for the night. The report from pit road was power steering failure so the bad luck continues to plague that team. This now put Hewitt and Donnie Corellis on Hearn's rear deck lid. A very serious wreck occurred on lap 19 when somebody lost fluid going down the frontstretch. Ron Dwyer got into the liquid and made hard contact with the first turn retaining wall. Fortunately he was able to walk away from his battered racer.

Corellis moved his Rifenburg #57 into the runner-up position on the restart. JR Heffner made a power move from sixth to fourth on the outside on turn two on lap 24. No one could stop Hearn as he went on to record the very convincing win. Hearn now joins Alan Johnson and Bob McCreadie as the only drivers with three hundred victories or more in a big block modified on the DIRT circuit. Corellis continues to post top five finishes and came home second. Hewitt had his best finish of the season in third, Heffner was fourth and Eddie Marshall rounded out the top five.

Only one caution flag flew in the 20-lap sportsman main, but that was not enough to stop Ryan Larkin from claiming the victory. Larkin took the lead on the first lap of the race and never looked back. Art Collins came from deep in the pack to tried to make a race out of it, but ran out of time and had to settle for second. K.C. Goewey came home third, Lorne Browe fourth and Bobby Knipe fifth. One sportsman driver that was not present was Chad Pierce as he got married today so congratulations and good luck go out to him and his new bride.

The first half of the 20-lap pro stock feature went off without a single caution flag, but five caution periods in the second half tore up many racecars. As six-car pile-up on lap ten included Jim Langenback, Danny Sanchez and Bill Lobdell. Robbie Speed dropped from the event on lap eleven. Jay Casey held the advantage through much of the race. Govertsen made his bid on lap 18 and took the lead and the victory. Casey finished second, Rob Yetman third, Buddy Hencke fourth and Paul LaRochelle came back from that lap six incident to finish fifth.
