JOEY SCARALLO FINISHES A CAREER-BEST FOURTH AT PORTLAND
PORTLAND, Ore. (June 19, 2004) Joey Scarallo, driver of the No. 06 ROH
Wheels / Group A Autotrend / Toyo Tires Chevrolet Corvette, finished fourth
in todayıs Albertsons Trans-Am 100 at Portland International Speedway.
A career-best finish, Scarallo earned the VP Fuels Racing Hard Charger Award
for improving the most positions. The VP Fuels Racing Hard Charger Award is
new this year and is sponsored by VP Fuels, the official fuel supplier of
the Motorock Trans-Am Series. The winner is awarded a check for two hundred
dollars worth of VP Fuel racing gasoline.
Scarallo now sits seventh in points, just behind Tommy Kendall, with 37
points.
³My new Hewland gearbox shifted smoothly and fit with my driving style,²
commented Scarallo. ³The track was really greasy and a I had to pace myself
to avoid killing my tires,² said Scarallo. ³The car ran good, the whole key
was maintaining your tires.
³It is tough to tell if the hood louvers were helpful,² added Scarallo of
the newly approved Corvette hood louvers. ³
Prior to today, Scaralloıs best Trans-Am Series finish was at Mosport
International Raceway in 2003, where he finished seventh..
Since teaming with Baucom Motorsports, which fields the No. 86 Ford Mustang
driven by John Baucom, Scarallo has had the opportunity to focus on driving
the car.
³Baucom Motorsports is doing a great job maintaining my car both pre- and
post-race,² said Scarallo. ³The move to Baucom Motorsports was definitely a
good one and I am glad we did it.²
A long-time racer, Scarallo has been in the driverıs seat since he was 11,
racing karts in the Long Island Karting Association, where he won three
championships in 1993. Scarallo also won championships in the International
Karting Federation in 1996, and he recorded three top-ten finishes in the
U.S. F2000 where he finished 14th in series points. He ran a limited
schedule in 1997, scoring 11th- and 12th-place finishes in his three starts.
Scarallo competed in the Toyota Atlantic Series in 2000.
The oldest of four siblings, Scarallo, 25, lives in Smithtown, N.Y. Scarallo
manages Autotrend Tire and Wheel Company Inc., his familyıs wheel importing
business. He will compete next in the Infineon Trans-Am 100 at Infineon
Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. June 25-27.
