CASCAR Super Series QUALIFYING & GRID: Clarington 200 Mosport Int'l Raceway For more information contact CASCAR at (519) 641-1214 For immediate release / June 19, 2004 Mosport qualifying: Don Thomson Jr. earns second consecutive Clarington 200 pole OSHAWA, ON - On Saturday afternoon at Mosport Int'l Raceway, the CASCAR Super Series took to the road course for the first time in 2004 with a pair of qualifying sessions for Sunday's Clarington 200. For the second year in a row, three-time and defending Super Series champion Don Thomson Jr. will sit on the pole for the Clarington 200 after posting the fastest time based on the combined results of the two, 20-minute qualifying sessions that took place on Saturday afternoon at the legendary Mosport road course. Thomson's Home Hardware Chevy posted a time of 1 minute, 26.586 seconds during the second session, which was narrowly better than the time of three-time Clarington 200 winner Peter Gibbons (1:27.046). Thomson's pole-earning lap in 2003 was 1 minute, 27.205 seconds. Jeff Lapcevich, the winner of both the Toronto and Vancouver Indy CASCAR races in '03 will start third on Sunday (1:27.331). All three drivers posted their best times during the second session. ERB Pontiac driver Scott Steckly, the third-place finisher in the '03 Clarington 200, will start fourth. A total of 26 CASCAR Late Models will take the green flag for the Clarington 200 at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Several other racing series are in action this weekend at Mosport, including the Ontario Touring GT Championship, the Honda/Michelin Series, the FV1200 Championship and Cup Lites.
