BAZEMORE ENDS UP NINTH, WILL FACE WORSHAM IN FIRST ROUND

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 19, 2004) - NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny
Car points leader Whit Bazemore ended up ninth in the field for Sunday's K&N
Filters Supernationals and will face No. 2 in points Del Worsham in the
first round of eliminations.

Bazemore saved his best for last today with his Matco Tools Iron Eagle Dodge
Stratus, by posting his quickest and fastest pass of the weekend, a
4.967/303.16. It didn't move him up into the field from No. 9, however,
placing him in a head-to-head match-up with the No. 8 qualifier Worsham
tomorrow morning.

"We made a lot of progress today, actually," said Bazemore, who is 21 points
ahead of Worsham. "We were struggling in the heat yesterday and we let last
night get away from us and we ended up ninth. The Matco Tools Dodge team and
crew chief Lee Beard made good progress today with the car, stepped it up,
it ran .96 in the heat, which, compared to our competition, was a pretty
decent number." Bazemore's lap was third quickest and fastest of the round.

"We're on the right track now," he added. "It's good. We're feeling a lot
better about ourselves."

As for his race against Worsham: "It's a great opportunity," he said.
"They're a tough team. It's an opportunity for us to go out and put more
ground between them than we would otherwise be able to do. The way I look at
it, if you're serious about winning a championship, you've got to race the
best at any time. It doesn't matter if it's the first round or the final."
