Scarallo Seventh Fastest in Final Practice at Portland



PORTLAND, Ore. (June 19, 2004) ­ Joey Scarallo, driver of the No. 06 ROH
Wheels / Group A Autotrend / Toyo Tires Chevrolet Corvette, was seventh
fastest today in the final practice at Portland International Speedway for
the Albertsons Trans-Am 100. Scarallo, who qualified in sixth in yesterdayıs
qualifying, will start fifth in todayıs race, just ahead of his Baucom
Motorsportsı teammate, John Baucom. Scarallo was elevated one position due
to Paul Gentilozzi, who qualified first, being disqualified in
post-qualifying technical inspection.

³The team made changes to the car before this morningıs final practice
round, but they didnıt turn out to be as beneficial as we had thought they
would be,² said Scarallo. ³We plan to return to the carıs earlier setup for
this afternoonıs race.²

The changes made by Scaralloıs new team, Baucom Motorsports, may not have
been have worked out, but Scaralloıs affiliation with his new team certainly
has helped the sophomore driver.

³I have a top-five car and expect to finish well in todayıs race,² said
Scarallo..  

A long-time racer, Scarallo has been in the driverıs seat since he was 11,
racing karts in the Long Island Karting Association, where he won three
championships in 1993. Scarallo also won championships in the International
Karting Federation in 1996, and he recorded three top-ten finishes in the
U.S. F2000 where he finished 14th in series points. He ran a limited
schedule in 1997, scoring 11th- and 12th-place finishes in his three starts.
Scarallo competed in the Toyota Atlantic Series in 2000.

The oldest of four siblings, Scarallo, 25, lives in Smithtown, N.Y. Scarallo
manages Autotrend Tire and Wheel Company Inc., his familyıs wheel importing
business in Lindenhurst, N.Y.
