BAZEMORE NO. 9 FRIDAY NIGHT IN E-TOWN

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 18, 2004) - Under hot, humid and slippery
conditions, Whit Bazemore ended Friday Funny Car qualifying for Sunday's K&N
Filters Supernationals in No. 9 position, based on his first pass today of
5.016 seconds at 302.89 mph, which was good for No. 2 at the time.

In the second session he lost traction on his Matco Tools Iron Eagle Dodge
Stratus, posting a slower lap of 5.660/177.02.

"The track was a lot better tonight than it was earlier," said points leader
Bazemore, "and our Matco Tools Dodge just moved around a little bit early in
the run. By half track it was pretty far left; I just couldn't get it back
in the groove. It wouldn't come back. It felt like the front end was down.
It was definitely pushing and it spun the tires. We weren't going to improve
on our previous run, and it's not what we intended to do tonight.

"The good thing is we're qualified. The other good thing is that tomorrow we
will work on our race day setup. We will start from down in the field some
and maybe we can run into (Del) Worsham or somebody (else in the points
chase) early."
