Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland
Round 4 of 16

A.J. Allmendinger, #10

Qualified 4th 59.803/118.529 mph

American rookie AJ Allmendinger was one of four drivers to break the one minute threshold around the 1.969-mile
permanent road course in Friday afternoon's provisional qualifying for the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland.
Allmendinger is on course to post his best qualifying effort in his young Champ Car career, topping his debut position of
eighth for the Long Beach Grand Prix.

A.J. Allmendinger

"I feel really good about our effort today.  We're making a lot of progress, but this track is very tricky.  In the 10
minute pre-qualifying practice, my car was terrible, but with one little adjustment we were able to change the
balance back to where we needed it and I picked up a second.  The track always gets tricky when it gets a lot
of rubber on it and the heat is really making an impact.  It's very slippery, so keeping a good balance on the car
is really important. We keep going back and forth between a little bit of understeer, then a little bit of oversteer,
but we're close. We're not that far off from where we want to be."

Jeremy Dale, Team President

"AJ's had a good day.  I think it goes without saying that our results at Milwaukee provided some inspiration for
everyone, especially for a rookie like AJ.  We've made a lot of improvements since Milwaukee as well in terms
of understanding the cars and that showed today.  AJ did a good job.  The team did a good job."
