FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCARALLO SIXTH FASTEST IN FIRST-ROUND PRACTICE AT PORTLAND
PORTLAND, Ore. (June 18, 2004) Joey Scarallo, driver of the No. 06 ROH
Wheels/Group A Autotrend/Toyo Tires Chevrolet Corvette, was sixth fastest in
todayıs Albertsons Trans-Am 100 first-round practice at Portland
International Speedway. This is an impressive start in round two of the
Motorock Trans-Am Series Championship. The track is new to Scarallo, who
finished 13th in round one at Long Beach after suffering mechanical
failures.
Scarallo, who earlier this season joined the Baucom Motorsports team, which
fields the No. 86 Ford Mustang for John Baucom, thinks the 2004 season will
be much better than last season. ³Teaming with Baucom is a better situation
for me since it has allowed me to focus on my driving rather than the
maintenance of the car,² said Scarallo. ³John found things that were not
reliable in my car and they have made them reliable.²
His new relationship with Baucom proved beneficial in todayıs practice.
³I have been very excited about Portland since Long Beach,² said Scarallo.
³I didnıt expect to be this quick in practice but we had a first-rate
session and finished in the top-ten. My goal is qualify in the top-five at
Trans-Am qualifying later today.²
A long-time racer, Scarallo has been in the driverıs seat since he was 11,
racing karts in the Long Island Karting Association, where he won three
championships in 1993. Scarallo also won championships in the International
Karting Federation in 1996, and he recorded three top-ten finishes in the
U.S. F2000 where he finished 14th in series points. He ran a limited
schedule in 1997, scoring 11th- and 12th-place finishes in his three starts.
Scarallo competed in the Toyota Atlantic Series in 2000.
The oldest of four siblings, Scarallo, 25, lives in Smithtown, N.Y. Scarallo
manages Autotrend Tire and Wheel Company Inc., his familyıs wheel importing
business in Lindenhurst, N.Y.
