FRANCHITTI HOPING TO TRANSFORM ARCAEX CAR INTO RACE
WINNER
FT. WORTH, Texas (June 11, 2004) - ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti
accomplished all he could during Thursday night's qualifying session at Texas Motor
Speedway and is hoping to parlay that into his first Indy Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ
Series win tomorrow night.
Franchitti, who will lead the field to the green in the #27 ArcaEx Honda-
powered Dallara, attempted to find the right race setup Friday during a pair of
practice sessions in advance of the Bombardier 500 on the 1.5-mile high-banked
oval. In all, Franchitti turned 37 practice laps in the final session and recorded a top
speed of 208.903 miles per hour, which ranked him 11th overall.
The final session was led by Sam Hornish Jr., who charted a speed of 211.331
miles per hour. He was followed by XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta at 210.317
miles per hour and Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan at 210.209.
Tomorrow night's 200-lap race is slated to go green just after 8 p.m. (EDT)
and airs live on ESPN.
Dario Franchitti, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"You can never be 100 percent ready for a race, but we tried to get ourselves
as prepared as possible for a good run in the ArcaEx car. It's great to be able to start
from the pole, but we need to be able to go the distance tomorrow night. I think we
still have a little bit of work to do tonight to make the car really good, so we'll see
what happens on Saturday."
Kyle Moyer, General Manager, Andretti Green Racing:
"I don't know if anybody really knows what anybody else has right now, but I
think all four of our cars, including the ArcaEx car, are okay. The bottom line here is
that you'll probably be able to throw a blanket over a big pack of cars at the front
tomorrow night anyway, so we'll just try to be where we need to be and see what
shakes out at the end."
