LA Auto Club Announces Board Chair, Vice Chair and New Directors
LOS ANGELES--June 11, 2004--The Automobile Club of Southern California announced that Byron E. Allumbaugh and Willis B. Wood, Jr. have been elected by its board of directors to serve as chairman and vice chairman, respectively. The board also elected two new members, Anne L. Evans and Peter K. Barker, to serve three-year terms. They join David R. Carpenter and Gilbert Ray, who were also elected to serve additional terms on the board.Allumbaugh has served on the board since 1996. He is the retired chairman and CEO of Ralphs Grocery Co. He also serves on the board of directors for The Pantry Inc., Penn Traffic Co., CKE Restaurants and Galyan's Trading Co. His civic involvement includes serving as a director on the board of the Horatio Alger Association. He is a past director of the Orange County Performing Arts Theater, National Conference of Christians and Jews, and the Food Industry Circle for the City Of Hope.
Wood has served on the board since 1993. He is the retired chairman and CEO of Pacific Enterprises. Wood also serves on the board of directors for Washington Mutual. He is chairman of the board of the American Automobile Association. He also serves as a trustee for the University of Southern California, John & Dora Haynes Foundation and Harvey Mudd College. He is a past director of the California Chamber of Commerce, Los Angeles World Affairs Council and National Association of Manufacturers.
Evans has been chairman of Evans Hotels since 1984. She has been a leader in the San Diego tourism industry for decades and has earned numerous awards and honors. Evans is currently a director on the California Chamber of Commerce and a trustee of both the UC San Diego Foundation and Hubbs-Sea World Society. She received the 2003 Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the California Travel Industry Association, 2003 Pioneering Woman Award from the Catfish Club and 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Corporate Directors Forum.
Barker is a retired partner at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he consulted with a wide range of banking, tourism and service corporations.
Barker currently serves on the boards of the Metropolitan Los Angeles YMCA, Music Center of Los Angeles, W. M. Keck Foundation and Fletcher Jones Foundation. He is also a trustee of the Huntington Library and chairs the board of trustees for Claremont McKenna College. He is a former board chair of the Los Angeles Area Council of Boy Scouts of America.
Barker also serves on the board of directors for Avery Dennison Corp., Ameron International and Stone Energy Inc.
Carpenter is chairman and CEO of Unihealth Foundation. He also serves as chairman of the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara. He is a past chair of the board for the Los Angeles Central City Association and the Fielding Institute. He is a past director of the boards of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles Sports Council and Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
Ray is a retired partner of O'Melveny & Meyers LLP. He serves as a director on the boards of St. John Health Center, the John & Dora Haynes Foundation, Watson & Wyatt Co., HMS Host Co. and Sierra Monolithics. He is past director on the boards of Los Angeles Community Development Bank, UCLA/Armand Hammer Museum, Independent Colleges of Southern California, Greater Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Visitors and Convention Bureau.
The Automobile Club of Southern California, the largest affiliate of the AAA, has been serving members since 1900.
