Johnson Controls Selects Compuware Covisint to Provide Electronic Transactions With Trading Partners
DETROIT, June 9 -- Covisint, a subsidiary of Compuware Corporation , announced today that it had signed an agreement with the Automotive Group of Johnson Controls, Inc. to make Covisint Connect its data messaging service.
Johnson Controls will consolidate several third-party VAN (value added network) providers and replace its existing EDI infrastructure. Covisint Connect will become the foundation for Johnson Controls' messaging transport, translation, interoperability and web-services. When deployment is completed, Johnson Controls will use Covisint Connect to exchange data with its suppliers and automaker customers.
Johnson Controls was a member of the six-company consortium that helped specify and develop the new Covisint Connect data messaging service that successfully launched last December. Johnson Controls completed rigorous testing and pilots prior to signing a service agreement and developing their implementation plans. Johnson Controls will have a single integration point with Covisint and utilize the consortium developed -- and AIAG approved -- XML business object documents (BODs) to communicate with its trading partners. Johnson Controls' trading partners will be able to easily connect to the Covisint Connect service directly or via their current VAN interconnect partner. Covisint has already started to migrate trading partners.
"With Covisint Connect, Johnson Controls expects to reduce routing, delivery, mapping and support costs and streamline our supplier communications," said Sue Kampe, Vice President and General Manager of Information Technology Global for the Automotive Group of Johnson Controls.
Besides providing replacement for traditional EDI service, Covisint Connect can be used to share data of any type between disparate applications. Covisint Connect offers automotive specific features that reduce the complexity of trading partner data exchange.
"Covisint Connect was designed to significantly improve, and reduce the expense of, communications between companies in the automotive industry," said Bob Paul, CEO, Covisint. "Together with our Covisint Communicate portal service, we provide our customers with a complete solution for industry interoperability. Covisint Communicate portal services are in heavy use throughout the industry and enable companies to share information and applications through an industry standard portal."
