Road Charging Technologies at Telematics Update Seminar in Stuttgart on 21st of June 04

LONDON, June 9 --

LogicaCMG is to sponsor the Telematics Update Road Charging Seminar 2004, the first event of its kind that brings together the telematics, transportation, billing and tolling industries. You can find more information on the conference on www.telematicsupdate.com/roadcharging.

LogicaCMG's workshop on the 21st of June 2004 at 5pm CET, will discuss the suitability of the various technologies that are available to power road charging schemes. Also contributing will be Siemens, outlining its Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology, Asfinag, who will discuss the Austrian Trucktolling system, and Capita, who will talk about the London congestion charging system.

LogicaCMG is a sponsor of the Road Charging seminar, which will look at how to develop an interoperable road-charging network across Europe. The event brings together the entire industry, from car manufacturers to IT consultants, to discuss solutions to the technical and contractual interoperability problems of road charging networks.

Anne Tip, Principal Consultant, LogicaCMG, who will moderate the workshop, said: "Road charging is quickly spreading across Europe as end users are increasingly accepting it as part of their daily lives. However, there are many competing technologies available to implement these schemes and serious consideration is needed to choose the most suitable one. LogicaCMG has significant experience in this area having worked on a number of implementations across Europe including the Austrian Trucktolling scheme and the company has the ability to implement any of the technologies currently being used across Europe."

LogicaCMG has a wide range of experience in traffic technology including the successful deployment of its Mobile Traffic Services (MTS) in Noord-Brabant, Netherlands in November 2003. MTS uses anonymous information from the GSM network via passive monitoring, without individual mobile telephones actually being approached, to provide information on traffic conditions. Additionally, unlike most current systems that can only report traffic information on motorways, MTS provides updates on the entire road network including motorways and secondary roads. The MTS system was implemented in co-operation with Applied Generics and Vodafone.
