Pyle Makes Clean Sweep of ASA BFGoodrich Tires 250

MANSFIELD, Ohio (June 5, 2004) - Robbie Pyle showed the dominance of his No. 63
Citgo Chevrolet by making a clean sweep of the pole and race win for the ASA National
Tour BFGoodrich Tires 250 at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Speedway.

By capturing both ends of the event, Pyle received a $5,000 bonus courtesy of Jani-
King. This was the first time this season that a driver was able to receive this award, and
it pushed his race winnings to $20,780. The Jani-King pole was the 12th of Pyle's ASA
National Tour career, and he becomes the fifth pole winner in the five ASA National Tour
races this season.

"This close to home we had a lot of fans and a lot of family up there," Pyle, from nearby
Columbus, Ohio, said he celebrated his fourth ASA career win. "You like to do that in
front of all those guys and I know they were all cheering for me.

"We didn't know if we were going to do it (the pole and race win sweep). We had a hard
start to the year but this turns it around and makes it fun," Pyle claimed.

It was a fairly convincing win as Pyle was able to pull away from the field on the restarts.
He ended up with a 0.631-second margin of victory over Kevin Cywinski in the No. 1
Country Joe Homes Chevrolet, though a few laps earlier his lead was nearly one-
second.

"Robbie had a great car after restarts," Cywinski said. "We figured if we could get the
last 50 laps to go green I thought maybe we could at least catch him. He was starting to
get a little bit tight getting in the center of the corners and we were getting better in the
middle of the corners. But that's just the way the yellows fall and he had a great car. We
can't knock that."

Cywinski's plan was foiled by a late yellow flag caused when Brett Sontag appeared to
get into the back of Jay Middleton, spinning both cars on the backstretch. As Middleton
slid up towards the outer wall, Toby Porter had nowhere to go and hit his car. In turn,
Porter was rammed hard by Travis Kittleson in the back end, causing Porter's rear
wheels to be lifted completely off the ground and up onto the hood of Kittleson's
Chevrolet.

Thanks to the ASA National Tour rules, the lap count was frozen with five remaining and
it was a green flag sprint to the finish, far from the long run Cywinski had been hoping
for.

Pit strategy was a non-factor in this race as both Pyle and Cywinski, as well as most of
the top contenders, who got the two mandatory pit stops out of the way extremely early.
Thanks to a couple of early cautions, both drivers had their pit stops completed by lap
10.

"Track position is so big here because it is so hard to pass," Cywinski said of his
strategy coming into the .50-mile facility. We came in on the first two cautions, did our
stops and elected for track position. We were getting a little bit worried there with the
yellows at the end because we didn't know how much gas we had left."


"No pit strategy," said Pyle on his team's plan. "Just come in and that's it. Get them over
with."

There were five lead changes among five drivers. The caution flag flew 12 times for 74
laps. There were 14 of the 32 starters on the lead lap.


Unofficially, the top 10 finishers were Pyle, Cywinski, Reed Sorenson, Mike Garvey,
Stephen Leicht, Tim Sauter, Wade Day, Mike Eddy, Mike Cope and Chad Wood.

The Cool Shirt "Cool Move of the Race" award was given to Kris Stump for getting a
great start from the second position and leading the first 42 laps. These were the first
laps led of his ASA National Tour career.

Jay Middleton picked up the BFGoodrich Tires Halfway Leader award, and the VP Fuel
"Hard Charger of the Race" was Reed Sorenson for moving up 20 positions during the
race.

Earlier in the day Ryan Tedesco won the Mansfield 100, the ASA Late Model Series
event. It was Tedesco's second Late Model Series win in a week, and capped off a great
event that saw him capture the event pole. Due to the inversion, Tedesco started tenth
on the grid.

"We won from tenth last week (at Lake Erie {Pa.} Speedway) so I'm starting to think
that's my number," Tedesco exclaimed from winner's circle. "No matter where I qualify I
want to start tenth."

The ASA National Tour and ASA Late Model Series are both in action next at Berlin
