KREITZ PICKS UP SECOND SSP SPRINT WIN OF THE SEASON OVER RAHMER AND KLUGE

NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (June 3, 2004) – Donnie Kreitz Jr. won his second
Susquehanna Speedway Park Sprint Car feature of the season on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, Matt Smith claimed his first Xtreme Enduro Stock Car feature and Jason
Goodling won the Spectacular One on One Street Car Drags.
Polesitter Brent Kluge, a 410 Sprint Car rookie, took the lead at the onset
of the 25 lap event. As Kluge motored away from the field there was a major
rush to the front by a number of midpack starters. But Kluge held sway for many
laps until tenth place starting Kreitz managed to slip by in lapped traffic
on the 21st lap. Kreitz stayed in front for the remainder of the distance to
score the $2,500 win. The win was Kreitz’s 24th career SSP victory, which
moves him into a tie with Keith Kauffman for sixth place on the alltime win list.
The long distance traveler award goes to Peter Attard who competed at SSP
coming all the way from Sydney, Australia/
Fred Rahmer got by Kluge in the closing laps for second place with Kluge
holding on to third for his best finish to date. Eric Stambaugh and Greg Hodnett
completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Brian Leppo, Kevin
Nouse, Jim Siegel, Bobby Weaver, and Lance Dewease. Heat wins went to Stambaugh,
Leppo,and Hodnett.
Matt Smith started 12th in the 20 lap Xtreme Enduro Stock Car feature event,
and took the lead on the eighth lap. Former winner David Wilhelm passed Smith
for the top spot on lap 12, but gave up the top spot with a flat tire on the
17th circuit. Smith went on to the victory from that point with three time
winner Tom Johns getting second place after a crash just before the flag stand
on the final lap scrambled the cars in the top five. Matt Wampler, Ronnie
Thomas, and Darryl Davis completed the top five. Heat wins went to Thomas and
Wilhelm, with Curt Nichols taking the Pepsi Dash.
Bobby Weaver picked up $100 for posting the fasted lap among three
challengers in the Rock It Pizza School Bus Challenge. Weaver’s lap of 44.98 seconds
bested challengers Mike Rabold and Todd Zinn.
Jason Goodling pocketed $250 for winning the Spectacular One-on-One Street
Car Street Drags in his 1990 EagleTalon over Willie Godfrey in the championship
race. Fan favorite Ken Johns had the crowd on their feet in each of his two
races as he “rode the rim” with his 1985 Pontiac Station Wagon.
The next race will be Thursday Night, June 10 as SSP hosts the Great American
School Bus Race for the first time ever in Central Pennsylvania. Joining the
buses will be the 410 Sprint Cars and the Xtreme Enduro Stocks. Gates open in
the pit area at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 5:00 p.m.
Warmups begin at 7:00 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m. Race fans
